The Pomapoo is a Pomeranian crossed with a Toy Poodle, and the combination produces a small, fluffy, alert dog that inherits the Pomeranian's confidence and the Poodle's intelligence in a low-shedding package. They're adaptable, sociable, and reasonably well-suited to apartment living — provided you understand that there's more than a little Pomeranian in that personality, and Pomeranians have a lot to say about the world.
The vocal tendency is the thing to prepare for. Both parent breeds are alert and communicative, and the Pomapoo arrives with opinions about arrivals, departures, sounds, and general situations that it will share at volume. Training can moderate this; it won't eliminate it. Neighbours are worth considering.
The intelligence is genuine and needs outlets. A Pomapoo that isn't getting mental engagement will find its own intellectual challenges, which typically involve reorganising your belongings or sustained commentary. Short training sessions and interactive play keeps the Poodle side of the brain satisfied.
They're devoted to their family, sociable with people they know, and moderate with strangers — less immediately open than a pure Poodle, but not suspicious. With other pets they manage reasonably well.
The coat varies by litter — the Poodle side produces curly, lower-shedding coats; the Pomeranian side can produce fluffier, higher-shedding alternatives. Either way, regular brushing and professional grooming is part of the deal.
For apartment dwellers or urban owners who want a small, intelligent, companionable dog and can manage the vocal tendencies with training, the Pomapoo is a lively and rewarding companion.
