Exercise

The Bordoodle has significant exercise needs — at least 60–90 minutes of activity daily. They excel at agility, fetch, and obedience sports. Mental stimulation is just as important as physical; a bored Bordoodle will find their own entertainment.

Grooming

Bordoodles typically have a wavy or curly coat that sheds minimally but requires regular brushing every few days to prevent matting. Professional grooming every 8–12 weeks keeps the coat manageable.

Training

Highly trainable and eager to please, the Bordoodle takes to training quickly. They respond best to positive reinforcement and mental challenges. Early socialisation helps balance the Border Collie's herding instincts.

The Bordoodle Story

The Bordoodle is what happens when you combine two of the smartest dogs on the planet and then forget to lower the settings. Border Collie brain, Poodle brain, same dog. What you get is sharp, quick, and very aware of what’s going on, including the parts you’d rather it didn’t notice.

At their best, they’re outstanding. Trainable, responsive, and genuinely enjoyable to work with. They pick things up fast and usually want to be involved, which makes them great for people who like doing things with their dog rather than just owning one.

Energy and engagement are non-negotiable. This isn’t a “walk it and you’re done” dog. They need regular exercise and something to think about. If the Collie side comes through strongly, that mental side becomes the main requirement. Skip it and they’ll find their own outlet, which often involves rearranging your house or your routine.

They tend to be affectionate and people-focused, but not always easygoing. There’s a lot going on in that head. Some are soft and eager, others a bit more intense and demanding. It varies more than people expect with crossbreeds.

Coat-wise, you’ll usually get something wavy to curly with lower shedding, but not zero maintenance. Regular brushing and occasional grooming are part of the deal.

The Bordoodle can be a brilliant dog in the right setup. Active owner, time to engage, interest in training. If that’s you, they make a lot of sense. If you’re after something that quietly fits around your life, this isn’t it.
